BookJockey is a new and experimental format to show and enjoy photobooks.

Two very special session will be held in Paris, as part of the activities of the new International PhotoBook Festival Le PhotobookFest organized by Le Paris PhotoBook Club. If you are in Paris next saturday and sunday for any of the multiples photography fairs and festivals flooding the city with images, may you are a photobookie or not, you will have this incredible opportunity to assist to a BookJockey session live! Double program, doubles!

Newbies Sadreddine Arezki and Annakarin Quinto will begin on saturday 16 5 pm., and this is what they have to say about their performance:

What would happen if we put Robert Frank, Martine Derks, Xavier Fernandez, Sven Jacobsen, Lee Friedlander, Helen Sear, Stanley Greene, Stefano Marchionini, José Suhadolnik, Antoine D’Agata, Lionel Bayol Thémines, Gilles Peress, Letizia Battaglia, Vivian Maier, Robert Doisneau, Walker Evans, Bertien van Manen, Stéphane Duroy , Jim Goldberg, Daido Moriyama, Raymond Depardon, Gilbert Fastenekaens, Laurent Champoussin,Timothy H. O’sullivan, Claudine Doury, Kate Nolan… * in the same room?

For a possible answer Rendez-vous Saturday Nov. 16th at 18.00 for an exclusive photobookDJ session at picture tank – 19 rue Bisson – 75020 The only place to be during Paris Photo, Off Print and Fotofever

(* temporary list; it may change but do not dream : we are incorruptible)

Next day, sunday 17th 6 pm., Juan Cires and Ricardo Garrido -on their second experience for both, and their first ‘doubles’ one- just say:

“The ping the pong” is a special Bookjockey session where two photobookDJs join forces to return to life old photobooks, to find out the secrets that hold the rarest photobooks and to discover the details of the greatest classics of the photobook. It’s really entertaining.

Any question? Take a look, only 14 of these books are travelling to Paris:

Questions still? Well, ....

Both sessions will be held at:
L’Ancienne Imprimerie/Picture Tank
19, rue Bisson
75020 Paris

There will be a 3-day pop-up bookshop, with a fine selection of self-published books, and books from independent publishing houses

Many of the books displayed will be available as signed copies, and a few pre-owned finds will be presented on the bookshop’s tables as well.

Booksigning sessions called “Apero-Signings” will be held on Saturday evening (18:30-20:00).
The idea is a 90′ session where all the artists will be there together. Each artist will shortly present their book, and then will be available to discuss and chat with everyone, occasionally signing your copy, all while having a nice glass of wine or a sparkling water.

“Winning Rock your dummy! contest in 2013 was a great and exciting experience. My book Did we ever meet? got a lot of exposure and has been since exhibited in Europe and Russia. I got a chance to talk about the dummy with experts from the book business. I’ve reedited it to be able to self-publish it independently and do the whole process from printing to binding at home. Thank you so much guys, and good luck to all the contestants this year!!”
Lena Kholkina, Winner of the Rock Your Dummy Award www.offonroad.com.

“I took part in the first edition of Le PhotobookFest with my dummy “Dispersal”, I got an honorable mention, and I must confess it took me by surprise. I regret I wasn’t even there when they announced it, cause the atmosphere was at the same time cool, relaxed, and perfect to share books and ideas. A little gem in Paris Photo frenzy. Suddenly, my “book” (which looks more like a box) got noticed, it drew attention, and I could hear feedbacks and comments. I am sure it is also because of Le PhotobookFest that it is now almost sold out, and I wish to be part again of this cool new baby among festivals!”

THE 2015 PHOTOBOOKFEST
THE INDIE FESTIVAL DURING PARIS PHOTO!

http://ateliers-artistes-belleville.fr/

From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th November 2015, from 10:00 to 21:00

Opening: Friday, November 13th from 6pm to 9pm (followed by a concert with Nasty Candy & Coco Lipstick and Princess Sarace's DJ Set at the Relais de Belleville)

Closing evening and announcement of the prize: Sunday, November 15 from 18.00 to 21.00

The PhotobookFest is a 3-day festival that defends the young editorial scene of the photo book, supporting DIY practices in general, and self-publishing and micro-publishing in particular. It is an open and inclusive event, where to share ideas and know-how and expand the horizons of the photo book as we know it to this day. Its first two editions have encouraged young authors to concretize publishing projects and promote their work.

The PhotobookFest will take place at the Belleville Gallery of Artists' Studios and Le Relais Bar, both located within walking distance of one another in the Belleville neighborhood. Belleville is, of course, one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods, but also a neighborhood with an effervescent arts scene thanks to its artists' studios, small galleries and audacious concert halls. An ideal setting for this indie and international event.

We are pleased to invite you to discover and actively participate in the following appointments:

• Exhibition of models and prices Rock your Dummy! The best model will be rewarded by the publication of the book by the Spanish publishing house Fuego Books

• Thank you show. (Carte blanche to David Fathi, Léa Habourdin and Clément Verger)
• Two book publishing workshops for photographers with Discipula Editions and the creative team of Laia Abril and Ramon Pez
• Deli Talks, conversations that are both delicious and informal with Discipula Editions, David Fathi and Maria Inc., Antonio Xoubanova, Christian Lagata and Fuego Books, Mariela Sancari, the Paris-Berlin collective
• Model readings and photo books with international publishing experts
• A special fanzines session
• The Pop Up Bookshop of the Vegetable Lift and its signature aperitifs (Christian Lagata, MFG Paltrinieri, David Fathi, Antonio M. Xubanova, Thomas Sauvin, Philippe Chancel and Laia Abril to name a few)
• And the refreshment bar, a place to eat and meet around a drink

Thank who. : a Carte Blanche to Léa Habourdin, David Fathi and Clément Verger.
Léa Habourdin, David Fathi and Clément Verger have decided to look into a page that is never read, rarely seen and that never contains an image. Although it is present, some exceptions not withstanding, in all our books: the acknowledgements page.
Sometimes obscure or funny, absurd list of names or pile of logos of corporate patronage, it conveys, quietly, that an artist is never alone, that a book has a team and a cost, that it sometimes takes years to finance it, that friends helped, that professionals advised. It is customary to thank in a single breath your mom and the latest hyped curators, to say that without Johnny or the Foundation X this book would have never seen the light of day.
They asked themselves, as book readers, what this forgotten but indispensable page could tell them. Is it exclusively intended for those in the “inner circle” or does it illustrate the architecture and conception through those who participated in it? Furthermore, could it be our only clue, our only glance behind the curtain of the book’s making.
Acknowledgements:
We would like to warmly thank Yann Arthus Bertrand, Pablo and Emilie for their awesome financial support, Beyoncé, The International Photobook Corporation, Annakarin, your mom for a great evening, Tuesdays, Roland Barthes for the pizzas, Thibault and his many victims, the police officers who covered-up the case, Elton John, Maya Hoffman, Micheline and Pierre Clement’s parents, Doctors Without Borders, Thierry the organic wine producer, Patrick Cohen, Brigitte and Pierre, the inventor of OSB panels, Albert and Lucienne, and finally your mom again.
And thank to Golden Age, our furnitures sponsor !
